	עמותת מרחב בסיוע BI ARTS, תכנית חילופי התרבות של המועצה הבריטית, משרד החוץ ומשרד המדע התרבות והספורט יארחו את Paul Murrain, אדריכל נוף ומעצב אורבני בריטי מוביל. פול יהיה אורח מרחב בין התאריכים 4-7 במאי 2009. הביקור מתקיים כחלק מפרוייקט "בשבחי הצפיפות – כלים להתחזקות עירונית". לוח הזמנים והפעילות במסגרת ביקורו של Paul Murrain בארץ: יום שני 4 במאי 2009: סיור בירושלים וכיתת אומן לסטודנטים מבתי ספר לאדריכלות ברחבי הארץ ימים שלישי ורביעי,5-6 במאי 2009: סיורים בערים באזור המרכז ופגישות עם מתכננים יום חמישי 7 במאי 2009: 12:00-17:00 כיתת אומן לחברי מרחב בה יוצגו עבודות של חברים העוסקות בהתחדשות ציפוף וחיזוק העירוניות. Paul Murrain יתייחס למספר עבודות במהלך כיתת האומן. כיתת האומן כוללת ארוחת צהריים ומיועדת לחברי מרחב ששילמו דמי חבר לשנים 2008 2009 בלבד. להנחיות להגשת עבודות לחץ כאן. מספר המקומות מוגבל. 17:30-20:00 הצגת פרוייקט "בשבחי הצפיפות – כלים להתחזקות עירונית" והרצאה של Paul Murrain, בה הוא יציג פרוייקטים ועבודות שלו. ההרצאה פתוחה לקהל הרחב. הכניסה חינם לחברי מרחב. 50 ש"ח למשתתפים שאינם חברי מרחב. לרישום לחברות במרחב לחץ כאן. מיקום מדויק ופרטים נוספים יימסרו בהמשך.
מרחב יוצאת לחופשת פסח לרגל חג הפסח הבא עלינו לטובה תצא העמותה לחופשה בין התאריכים 8-18 באפריל 2009. כל ההתכתבויות, ההערות והפניות שיגיעו לעמותה עד ה-7 באפריל 2009 יטופלו עם הגעתם, ואלו שיגיעו לאחר מכן יטופלו עם חזרתנו מהחופשה ב-19 באפריל 2009. חג שמח!

P A U L M U R R A I N . P R O F I L E. J A N U A R Y 2 0 0 9. Paul is an urban design consultant, and (former) Senior Lecturer and Course Chairman at the Joint Center for Urban Design in Oxford, England. From May 2002-April 2005 he was Senior Design Director at HRH The Prince of Wales' Foundation for the Built Environment. Paul was appointed as Visiting Professor at the University of Greenwich in 2007 and invited to be an Academician for the RIBA’s Academy of Urbanism in 2008 He is now a Senior Fellow at the Prince’s Foundation but during his three years as Senior Design Director he led major urban design projects for a range of clients and project partners including two sustainable urban extensions in Northampton and Telford with English Partnerships and a complex regeneration project in Nelson, Lancashire. In February 2004 he led an intensive Enquiry by Design exercise exploring the potential of Harlow to absorb a proportion of the London-Stansted-Cambridge growth corridor in the form of a sustainable urban extension of approximately 60,000 people. Wendy Morris was member of that team. Paul is retained as urban design consultant and master planner to that project. Since leaving the Prince’s Foundation he has also been retained by the client to work on Sherford, the masterplan for an urban extension to Plymouth for 5,500 dwellings and associated mixed use again employing a complex Enquiry by Design process led by Paul. In September this year Paul was invited to join the team of leading USA New Urbanists Duany, Plater-Zyberk (DPZ), to develop a plan for a new settlement near Inverness, Scotland and retains an involvement in that project. Since 1993, he has collaborated with DPZ on several occasions both in the USA, Europe and Malaysia. He has also taught on their postgraduate course in Suburban and Town Design at the University of Miami. He was also invited to Harvard and Yale for studio teaching and reviews. Paul was a member of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Design Coding Advisory Panel. Prior to that he was asked to advise the office of the ODPM on matters related to New Urbanism and urban design codes and was invited to join the Deputy Prime Minister and his fact finding team in the USA in 2003. He has recently been appointed to the UK Government’s Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) Expert Panel on Strategic Urban Design. In 1996, Paul, in association with Urban Solutions and Osmond Lange architects in Johannesburg, played a major role in the rethinking of a proposal for a major internal shopping mall and associated office towers, replaced by a traditional street pattern of mixed use urbanism including many mixed use buildings, funded by the Gold Mines Pension Fund.. The original plan was that of a highly defended stand alone office park and shopping mall a prerequisite for institutional funding in South Africa. Now, the plan has a series of interconnected streets, residential and office over retail, cinemas and two public squares. The first phase received funding from the Gold Mines Pension Fund in September 1997. Though still under construction, this project is regarded by many as a turning point in corporate financing of traditional urban form. Paul has carried out many consultancy commissions in Australia, including leading major urban design charrettes for complex inner city sites in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne; the latter two involving the design of mixed use town around both existing and proposed light and heavy rail commuting lines and stations. In addition he has joined ESD as a member of their EbD teams on a variety of projects in Australia. He has undertaken visiting lectureships at the Universities of Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Paul is joint author of a book entitled "Responsive Environments: A Manual For Designers." which sets out the design qualities necessary to produce a physical environment that is choice laden, interactive and essentially democratic for everyday users of the public realm of our towns and cities. Paul has been a member of the Congress for The New Urbanism in the USA since its inception in 1992.
